I am an Assistant Professor in the Networked Systems Group of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS) at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands. My research interests are in the areas of edge computing, next-generation network protocols, Internet-wide measurements, and critical application managment/deployment. Read more about my research here.

Prior to joining Delft, I was a senior researcher in the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Helsinki, Finland in 2019. My Ph.D. thesis has been awarded Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award by the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC). I received my Master's from IIIT Delhi, India in 2015.

Research Overview

I consider myself as a "distributed systems" guy as I have always been involved in various domains (read "avatars") of this field. "Divided we stand, united we fall" is my personal motto in the context of computer networking research.

Edge Computing
A broad theme of my research explores the physical deployment, specifications and effective utilization of compute resources at the network "edge". The problem is complex primarily due to different requirements imposed by emerging applications. For example, Internet-of-Things need data aggregation, autonomous vehicles require graphical processing, automated industry necessitates task interoperability and AR/VR demands ultra-low network latency. Incorporating such varying application demands to model an always available, semi-managed network of edge servers is something I quite enjoy.
Selected Publications ATC '23 CCR '22 HotNets '20 AoT '17
Next Generation Networks
Emerging applications have significantly changed the way we interact with the underlying network. Our old-yet-faithful protocol, TCP has started to show cracks in performance, especially in emerging cellular and wireless environments (e.g. 5G/6G, LEO satellites). I enjoy exploring and designing next-generation networking solutions which can plug-in several existing performance holes. For this measure, I am interested in working on protocols such as multipath flavors of TCP (MPTCP) and QUIC (MP-QUIC), and more.
Selected Publications HotNets '24 IMC '22 Networking '18
Internet-wide Measurements
I am interested in analyzing and challenging several widespread preconceptions within networking research community via real-world measurements. The problems I particularly tackle in this domain range from performance analysis of transport protocols (TCP, QUIC, etc.) in varying environments and workloads, Internet-wide scans to analyze support for emerging protocols and widescale measurments to analyze cloud/CDN reachability.
Selected Publications WebConf '24 IMC '21 WebConf '21
Application & Service Deployment
There is a rapid shift in the make-up of cloud computing as cloud providers try to incorporate edge resources and edge accelerators widely distributed in the region. The brunt of the complexity will be borne by existing cloud-based application as they need to depart from traditional monolithic client-server model. Another aim of my research is to devise intelligent softwarized applications and services which can adapt, adjust and adopt to changes in underlying compute infrastructure without sacrificing performance or quality-of-service.
